Hailing from the steepest block of Cabernet at Gist Ranch (all clone 15 - a French selection), the wines produced here have always been very distinctive in our barrel tastings. It has often been a component of the Apex blend. in 2019 we decided to bottle a selection of barrels from this block on its own to showcase the unique nature of this singular wine. It combines the dark fruit we expect from Gist with an exotic saline almost nori-like character - think wild mountain herbs and underbrush.

The vineyard was densely planted in the year 2000 at elevations reaching 2300 feet above sea level, 17 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The heavily fractured, vaqueros sandstone soils and unique mountain micro-climate produce singular, deeply concentrated wines that demonstrate the power and elegance of the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation.
