Turning off of Skyline Boulevard through the gates of Thomas Fogarty Winery – one is transported. Here at our estate, you’ll find legacy, curiosity, history, and beauty; all enjoyed with a glass of wine in hand. We can think of no better place to celebrate life’s milestones than our sanctuary perched high in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
We will forever be thankful to our founder, Dr. Thomas Fogarty, for his pioneering spirit and love of the outdoors. A practicing cardiovascular surgeon largely known for his development of the balloon catheter, Dr. Fogarty found refuge in his nearly 360 acres in Woodside, California accessed only by winding mountain roads. Early in California’s winemaking years he planted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and began his venture into viticulture. It was once Thomas Fogarty Winery became a respected producer of Santa Cruz Mountains wines that secret got out of the scenic views and serene beauty that the estate offered.
Today, the legacy continues. A 4,000 sq. ft. Pavilion deck was built into the hill above Damiana Chardonnay Vineyard, allowing wedding guests, corporate teams, medical students and wine enthusiasts to gather above the 40+ year-old vines. The indoor Hill House caters to the needs of those not wanting the night to end with both a dance floor and indoor dining space lined with windows so as not to obstruct the panoramic Bay views.
Now, in 2025, the venue plays host to groups sharing in Dr. Fogarty’s loves. Medical doctors, students and organizations gather to present research or to celebrate milestones. Innovative and driven professionals from a variety of fields meet and form companies and explore new endeavors. Wedding couples who delight in the outdoors just as Dr. Fogarty does choose to start their “forevers” with those original vineyards as their backdrop.
Many of our groups return annually. Some couples return with babies in tow. This year a May wedding couple shared vows in the same place the bride’s parents did 20+ years earlier. It’s a powerful reminder of the lasting impression this place makes.

Interested in wine?
Our team is passionate and knowledgeable about the winery, the estate, the vineyards and the wines. We host group wine tastings out of our cozy Redwood Room and offer private vineyard tours for those interested in the farming, wine production or just want to learn more about the property. We relish the opportunity to share about this place we love so much. Our vineyard manager of 36 years, Julio, may even drive by and share with us the latest news from out in the vineyards. Ask us about the Redwood Room’s soaking tub, or the repurposed medical device that Dr. Fogarty made functional as a towel hook in the Redwood Room restroom.
Just engaged and love the outdoors?
We love love! We have hosted hundreds if not thousands of weddings and are ready to help imagine your perfect day. Our ceremony lawn has witnessed the beginnings of many love stories. Our vineyards and hillside venue provide the perfect setting for your own unique day. We’ve hosted a wine tasting bar during a wedding cocktail hour and poured 1.5L Magnum size wine bottles for a wedding reception. Couples have used a wine bottle as their “guestbook” and bought bottles of the vintage for the year they met. It’s a magical place for a “happily ever after”. The frogs who inhabit the Pavilion fountain particularly love live music (jazz, to be specific) and will even sing-along outside the dancefloor.
Looking to collaborate or inspire your corporate team?
We are the perfect setting for a change-of-pace outside the office. We think it’s the fresh mountain air and finishing your work day with a wine tasting that really gets the juices flowing. It doesn’t hurt to host your meeting with vineyard views just outside your workspace, either. Another nod to our humble beginnings in the 1970s – check out the conversation pit waiting for you after your day in the Conference Room. We’ll put the fire on and a wine glass in your hand. A game of pool is always an option, too. Extra splash of wine to the winner!
Of course, no event at Thomas Fogarty Winery would be complete without our acclaimed wines. Grown in our estate vineyards and crafted onsite with care, each pour reflects the unique terrior of the Santa Cruz Mountains. We love suggesting wine pairings to complement your event menu, or suggesting a wine flight to best reflect the group enjoying it. International guests flying in? Why not pour Gewurztraminer or Nebbiolo? Did you hike at Windy Hill Open Space preserve before your winery visit? Let’s pour Windy Hill Pinot Noir. Our wines are really the cherry-on-top of a celebration at our venue.
